Scratchboard

Scratchboard engraving has been a hallmark of my career. It is a venerable drawing method of removing ink by hand from a white clay-coated board, using fine tools to create a variety of lines. Traditionally colored with watercolor, the addition of digital technology has enhanced my process with both color and texture. It’s technically challenging, yet for me, the magic is in the illusion - creating art that is remarkably realistic yet comprised almost completely of lines.
